Motivation

Sat Jul 19, 2008, 5:58 PM
I really need to get myself motivated and sort my terrible sleeping pattern out at the same time.

I've got the full CD case to complete for Ashley Hicklin's album by next weekend. It's going to be a standard plastic case affair for a promo run thing of 1000 copies. After that we'll hopefully be printing the design work onto some sort of canvas stuff and putting together a more elaborate and really cool package. Not sure how that's all going to work out but it'll be fun. For now though I need to concentrate on getting the standard case version sorted out. Ashley's meeting with EMI on the 12th August I think so needs it all ready to take with him... Eep!

Last Monday I was involved with a highly disorganised but fairly successful pilot live broadcast over the Internet called Arts Now! Basically we set up shop at the bar of the Spa complex down at the sea front in Scarborough and armed with Captain Ants' broken PowerBook, a video camera, a wireless spy camera with a shitty built-in microphone (now dubbed the "parrot cam"), a shed load of wires, an amp which served no purpose what so ever, a poet, an acoustic guitar player and one guy who left because it was too disorganised, we put together a 30 minute set of arts related nonsense and sent it out live for people to see on the net. Essentially this first one was an experiment but we know what went right and what went wrong so hopefully by next Monday we should be able to do something much better and dare I say more professional. Ahem.

The pilot can be seen either here [link] and clicking the “on demand” button or via the upforit.tv website here [link]

I do warn you though, it is rather pants and extremely hard to watch and listen to.

Last Wednesday I captured an invisible drum kit on video for Captain Ants at the open mic night at Cellars. Two video clips can be seen here [link] and here [link] and trust me, these are a little more entertaining.

OK, so what else I have got to yabber on about? There’s Scarborough’s Beached Festival on its way.

I don’t have much in the way of news on the subject at the moment, just to say that Ash will not be playing and the official line-up has yet to be confirmed and finalised (although if you look around, there are some bands who have Beached listed on their MySpace profiles under their tour dates such as One Night Only). Also this year, I am going to be an official photographer for the event thanks to Tom Watton, yey!

One of these days I'm gonna get organezized…

"an amp which served no purpose what so ever"
oopsie.

I loved the Invisible Drum Kit experiment! That whole night was pretty darn good... except the idiotic 'spoken word / poet' moron, who was demanding to perform.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with for Ash's cover. :D

I heard he was going to throw the mic on the floor at the end of his performance too. He'd asked John Watton what would happen if you dropped a mic on the floor... Bit of a silly question as obviously there was the chance it would break plus if would have made a nasty noise and I doubt Tony Turner would have been too pleased.

Oh Dear... he's a wash out.

When I met him, I instantly thought 'wanna-be punk'. He just doesn't get it.

I'll look forward to when I next see him, just to see how idiotic he is. Again.

Hayley just told me about Arts Now been on again tonight, I forgot about it, thus can't get the bus in on time. Let me know how it goes and I'll pop down next week hopefully.

He was pretty good and well behaved last night and performed three poems I think.
