Stadium Arcadium

Mon May 8, 2006, 8:13 AM
Now I thought the artwork in the new Tool album, "10,000 Days" was cool. The amount of crazy stuff in my copy of "Stadium Arcadium" by Red Hot Chili Peppers is crazy! 3D cover artwork, secret compartments here and there inside the box, a bag of glass marbles, a set of folded doodles and illustrations, a weird matchbook-like notepad, a spinning top with interchangeable discs, a lovely book with cool photography, a DVD and not to mention the fantastic double album itself. I love randomness!

10,000 Days, eh? I, myself, am a large Tool fan. I found myself vastly disappointed in every aspect of the album. Weak lyrics, "meh" vocals, and the music was all kinda halfassed with no unity, no collective theme in sound or meaning. (My humble opinion). As for the artwork, I really wanted something progressive...not Lateralus II. And pictures of the band? Something they swore off before? Oh, it made me so sad! (In spite of myself, I loved the man with the flaming spiral).

Anywho. I can't help but bring this up for discussion, sorry. May I ask your opinion on the music, and not just the art?

When I wrote the journal entry, I had only just started to listen to the album I think which is why I didn't go far in talking about the music but I have found Tool's latest album to be excellent. I loved the way it didn't sound completely new right away and that even after five years it sounded like they picked up where 2001's "Lateralus" left off. It almost sounded like they could have recorded the it almost straight afterwards, especially with the first couple of tracks which had a kind of "Schism" edge to them before the album kind of morphed, into something different and new. To me it didn't sound like "Lateralus II" but like a journey from "Lateralus" to something else which isn't better than but is another direction or another angle

Oh, I forgot to mention. If you dig Alex Grey, give Christian Duran a try...very excellent work. Got some stuff in my local museum. Not sure how popular he is, though.

Looks like some really interesting art. I like the style very much. I don't think I have come across him before so I'll certainly have to have a really good look through his work.

Just to let you know, the album that Tool recently released isn't actually their new one! It's a collection of all their old stuff before they got big and they have released it...erm, not as a trick, but it's not the new one! I was just as confused, but also awed by the incredible artwork in the cover, but I do in fact know the release date of the new album! woop! So just sit back, hold tight, and believe me it's coming! :D

I had a crazy idea that "10,000 Days" might be an album they wrote and recorded in a weekend as a joke to see if people would be like "Oh it's so amazing" just on the streangth that it's Tool and then a while later they would release the genuine new album and everyone would be embarrased. Hehehe.

I read this journal entry yesterday and then today I walk into the photo place to get a photo of myself and sat there on the seat is a package addressed to 'Christopher Swann' with a can of beer on top of it. The package had a measly one piece of selotape holding it shut so I looked inside and what did I find? Tool's 10,000 days album! I'll update more when I've checked it out.

Crazy, crazy, crazy! For some reason you have linked to this journal entry about "Stadium Arcadium" in your journal. The propper Tool journal entry is here [link] It's funny how almost everyone commenting on the Tool album has done so in this journal entry which is about The Red Hot Chili Peppers.

I did think that there would be a journal entry for 10,000 days when I was writing my entry about the coincidence and meant to search for it to see what you had said but then forgot. This was the journal entry that I read to form the beggining of the coincidence just yesterday or the day before not sure.
